Lousy end to a rotten week for NFL star

Ndamukong Suh involved in Portland car accident; no injuries or impairment reported

It has not been the greatest week for Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh(notes). Suspended for two games early in the week for kicking Green Bay Packers guard Evan Dietrich-Smith(notes) in the Lions' Thanksgiving Day loss to the Packers, Suh lost his appeal with the league on Friday, and thought he'd fly back to his hometown of Portland, Oregon for a little rest while he's locked out of team facilities.

Apparently, bad move.

As first reported by Jason Quick of The Oregonian, Suh was involved in a car accident early Saturday in downtown Portland. There were no injuries and no impairment; according to Quick, Suh simply lost control of his car on Portland's icy streets.  The car, a 1970 Chevy Coupe holding Suh and two passengers (no reported injuries) hit a light pole, a drinking fountain, and a tree. Suh cooperated with the police officers who reported to the scene at approximately 1:15 a.m.

Suh grew up in Portland and graduated from Grant High School. He was a soccer player in his youth (one reason for his impressive footwork), but chose to go to the University of Nebraska. In November, 2009, Suh was ticked by Nebraska police for negligent driving after hitting three parked cars with a Land Rover. There were no injuries in that accident, either. He was tested at a .035 blood alcohol level, well below the legal limit of .08.

Again, in the Portland accident, there is no indication whatsoever that Suh was in any way impaired — he simply lost control of his car on icy streets.
