9,200-pound star of 'Water for Elephants'

Five Film Facts: 'Water for Elephants'

Tai might not have her name above the title, but at 9,200 pounds, she's easily the biggest star of "Water for Elephants." That's right, she's an elephant and, over the years, has become the premiere pachyderm in Tinseltown.

She starred opposite Danny Glover in "Operation Dumbo Drop," outshined Bill Murray in "Larger Than Life," and made appearances in "George of the Jungle," Britney Spears's music video for "Circus," along with countless TV shows. And like many celebrities -- especially the ones with just a single name -- she caused a stir at a public event. In 2008, she was the center of attention at street artist Banksy's now-legendary L.A. debut -- as documented in "Exit Through the Gift Shop" -- when she appeared painted in pink and gold. Critics called it art; PETA called it animal cruelty. A few years later, she made an appearance at Nicole Richie and Joel Madden's wedding.

And, like seemingly every other celebrity, she has a cause. She's auctioning off one of her own personal paintings and an autographed poster for "Water for Elephants" on eBay to raise awareness of EEHV (Elephant endotheliotropic herpes virus), which can be lethal to baby elephants. And, of course, she has her own Twitter account. But one surmises that, like many A-list Twitter feeds, they are actually written by an assistant.
